A diamond ring is not exactly cheap.

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

A diamond ring is not exactly cheap.

In fact, one diamond ring may be equivalent to a couple of months of your apartment rental. Still, you don’t have to pay more if you can pay for it less? This is possible if you know the techniques that will help you find a quality diamond ring at discounted prices.

Read on and you might learn a trick or two.

Without knowing how much you are willing to shell out, you will not be able to find the diamond ring that will fit your needs. In order to set out for a cheaper diamond ring, you have to first determine what is cheap and what is expensive for you.

Be familiar with the prices

Unlike some commodities, diamond rings or any jewelry with diamonds on it do not have fixed prices. Prices of the pieces will depend upon the following properties of the diamond: clarity, cut, color and carat. Clarity refers to the clearness of the gemstone, its brilliance as well as its imperfections.

The color on the other hand refers to the “color” of the stone. Although diamonds are clear, there are varieties that have yellow shades. The carat refers to the weight and size of the stone while cut is the shape the stone is cut. Each property will determine the price of the diamond. For instance, the better the clarity, the higher the price. The same goes with the color. Yellowish-colored stones are less expensive. Reputable stores keep records of these things so don’t be afraid to ask the store

Watch out for sales

Stores frequently offer promos and sales, often during special occasions like anniversaries. Some conduct sales before Christmas to get rid of old stocks. Take note of these sales and follow the prices of the jewelry. Buy when there is a sale so that you can take advantage of the discounts. Although jewelry stores do not really give much in terms of discounts, a couple of percent is already pretty good especially if the price is high.

Look in thrift shops, garage sales and second hand stores

Although diamond rings are not exactly a dime a dozen in these kinds of shops, sometimes, they do appear. Be on the lookout but of course before you buy make sure that you have taken note of the specifications. You may be paying more for what it is really worth.

Once you found your favourite things would you excite? I would. So when I see sometwisted pearl necklace. I am very excited, especially pearl jewelry wholesale. If your solitaire has a tinge of yellow

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

If your solitaire has a tinge of yellow for example, you do not want to use smaller diamonds that are whiter in color. It would make the lesser quality of the large onestand out in such close proximity. If you do have a good quality diamond and think it would be great in a setting alone, there are still a couple of choices to make. How do want the piece to be set in your metal?

The most common setting for a solitaire diamond is with four or six prongs. This is most commonly used for engagement rings. If it is not for an engagement, you may wish to choose to have in done in a bezel setting. This is where the stone is less exposed and is surrounded by a solid outline of metal. This type of setting does give the diamond more protection. When choosing the metal for your diamond, you may consider the other jewelry you will be wearing along with your diamond piece. If you wear a lot of silver, a 10k or 14k white gold, or platinum setting will blend well with other silver pieces. If you normally wear gold tone jewelry, then 10k or 14k yellow gold will serve you best.

Whichever you decide, give all your choices careful consideration and then you will end up with a piece of jewelry that you will love and enjoy wearing for years to come.

Looking for something different and unique to present to your beloved? A turquoise engagement ring might be just the thing to show her just how unique she is. Is there a special meaning for you in the month of December? Choosing a turquoise engagement ring is an additional way to commemorate December as it is the birthstone for this particular month. In many cultures, the blue-green stone is associated with luck, wealth, faithfulness and trustworthy relationships. It is also associated with the metaphysical characteristic of promoting happiness. What greater way can you represent the luck that you found your beloved and the wealth of love and happiness that the two of you will share?

The history of turquoise dates as far back as 3,000 B.C. The beauty of this gemstone has adorned many historical artifacts from all over the world from Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, Persia and the United States. The turquoise is a copper aluminum phosphate that occurs naturally in all shades of blue. You can find it in shades from sky-blue, robin’s egg blue, blue-green, grayish green, or green. The more copper that the stone is composed of makes the stone bluer, while the more iron or chromium makes the stone greener. Rarely if ever, will you find a turquoise that has been faceted because faceting brings out the reflective properties of clearer gemstones, and turquoise is not clear. However, you can find many popular shapes such as marquise, oval or heart.

Due to the softness of turquoise, usually only a six, many stones are given a hardening treatment to make them more durable, as well as waxing or polishing to promote their color. Some stones may be dipped in a coloring agent before being sealed; according to rules of the ICA this must be indicated. Due to the softness of the stone, gentle care and cleaning are required. It is recommended that one should remove the turquoise before sun tanning as the UV rays can change the color of the stone. Also, when washing dishes, using household cleaners, or bathing the turquoise engagement ring should be removed to prevent damage. When storing, it should be stored away from other jewelry to prevent damage to the stone. If you have any doubts about the care or cleaning of your engagement ring, contact a reputable jeweler that has knowledge about this gemstone’s care.

Once you found your favourite things would you excite? I would. So when I see sometwisted pearl necklace. I am very excited, especially pearl jewelry wholesale. There will be a lot of turquoise necklace, cultured pearl pendant, cultured pearl earings, cultured pearl ring, cultured pearl bracelet, wholesale pearl strands, cultured pearl strands, cultured pearl beads … on showing. Diamonds are usually found

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Diamonds are usually found in central and southern Africa. Although diamonds have also been found in large quantities in Canada, Russia, and Australia. Diamonds are mined from volcanic shafts deep in the recesses of the earth. They are made when carbon-containing materials are exposed for a long period to high pressure and temperature.

Black diamonds have been around for a long time, and in the last few years have started to be marketed and promoted, making them fashionable. Of all the colors of diamonds, black diamonds are considered to be the most striking for a number of reasons. The black variety of diamonds, found in Brazil, are used for diamond drills. It occurs in irregular or rounded fragments, rarely distinctly crystallized, with a texture varying from solid to absorbent. Beautiful jewelry can be made using these loose black diamonds. There are diamond earrings and necklaces, which look gorgeous on the people, wearing them.

Some of the denser, less flawed carbon can be polished, but usually makes the stones get badly flawed surfaces. In addition, much of it is gray or dark gray rather than black, which tends to make it even less attractive. In recent years black diamonds have become fashionable and are currently being offered at very high prices. Diamonds were traditionally thought of as white or clear. As a matter of fact diamonds do have color and this can be graded. There are different types of colors that are available from black to pink diamonds, and there are yellow diamonds, which look more than stunning. There are many other colors of diamonds, which are gorgeous and available at quite reasonable prices.

Online sites are available that give information about different colors. They also provide information where real black loose diamonds can be bought. People can also order loose black diamonds online.

Wholesale jewelry is undergoing a wonderful transformation in recent times. Remember when costume jewelry was plastic, semi precious jewelry was for lapidary, Murano glass was for art galleries, and shell jewelry was for beach resorts? Then inspiration for fashion enters from the 1940s and 50s and a new classic look consumes the lines dividing wholesale jewelry.

The silhouette resurfaces with waistlines and belts as fashion runways return to the lady-like look that graced the silver screen of the forties and fifties. Suddenly the classic look engulfs fashion. The story includes accessories. Wholesale jewelry takes on new excellence as designers use man-made art and natural components to deliver surprising beauty. Category lines of wholesale jewelry blur as the upscale momentum of fashion jewelry delivers pink with rose quartz, brown with tiger’s eye, and blue with turquoise. Gemstones are accessorizing the hot color of red with coral and green with aventurine or unakite. A glance at the showcases of fine department stores or an upscale fashion magazine reveals the importance of gemstone in today’s fashion jewelry.

Yellow gold wedding bands continues to be more popular than white gold wedding bands, which I find surprising… I will openly share that I like white gold better than yellow gold… in my mind, it has a more contemporary look. The difference in color between yellow and white gold is determined by the metals used in the alloy mix. Yellow gold is made by combining pure gold with alloy metals such as copper and zinc. White gold is comprised of an alloy of gold and some white metals such as silver and palladium. White gold rings are typically coated with another white metal called rhodium. Rhodium is a metal very similar to platinum and has many platinum properties.

Nacre thickness is probably

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Nacre thickness is probably the most important factor to consider when buying white pearls. Nacre is the crystalline/organic substance that is excreted by the oyster or mollusk when an irritant or nucleus enters its shell. This substance coats the irritant in layers, until it becomes thick. This coated irritant or nuclei becomes the pearl.

Nacre thickness differentiates a high-quality pearl from a low-grade one. The thicker the nacre coating, the more durable and long-lasting the pearl is. Pearls with thinner nacres usually do not maintain their luster over the years and may in fact chip off.

Luster refers to the reflective quality of the pearl. The pearl has a mirror-like surface and the quality of its luster is directly affected by the thickness of the nacre. The thicker it is, the deeper the shine. High-quality white pearls reflect light and the surrounding objects best.

Surface texture refers to the clearness and smoothness of the pearl. It is the near absence of imperfection on the surface. No pearl has the perfect surface, but minimum and nearly imperceptible flaws affect its overall look and value. Pearls are graded depending on its imperfections, like spots, bumps, discolorations and other irregularities that show on its surface.

The size of the pearl is determined by its diameter and is measured in millimeters. Tiny pearls measure from 1mm and under while bigger pearls can reach a diameter of as much as 20mm, just below an inch. With all things being equal, size can mean a huge difference in the value of a pearl. The bigger ones, of course, fetch the higher price.

Pearls are never perfect. If one such is found, it is probably the rarest and the most expensive. Because pearls follow the general shape of its irritant or nucleus, it can come in a variety of shapes, from the spherical to the symmetrical to the baroque. Which one you pick for your pearl collar will depend on your preference.

Color and overtone

White pearls are white, right? Well, not quite. Aside from the similar silver color, there are also white pearls whose main body color is affected by its overtone. Overtones are hints of color that lie on top of the main body color of the pearl. Think of a pearl as a tiny white sphere and its overtone like a slightly colored clear plastic that is wrapped tightly and smoothly over it and you can imagine how slightly different the white would appear.

White pearls could have one or more overtones. These can enhance the beauty of white pearls and provide a unique glow to its iridescent quality. Some white pearls, for example can have pink or yellow overtones. Which one you choose is really just a matter of personal taste.

There are some samples, for example sterling silver accessories, cultured pearl necklace, pearl beads wholesale, wholesale pearl beads, cheap pearl bracelet, wholesale pearl earings, wholesale pearl pendant and turquoise earrings, opera or rope necklace though, that you need to look into when getting quality pearl jewelry, in any way you can look for some informations on the internet, in there you will find what you want, very interesting.

This is a gray area

Monday, July 14th, 2008

This is a gray area. You could buy a necklace for a co-worker but it does mean intimacy if you do. For a spouse or girlfriend, it is a good gift as it shows a degree of thought and necklaces are usually expensive. There are several options with necklaces, including getting a locket with pictures of the two of you in it.

All of these choices will work for a girlfriend or spouse, but getting them a ring or necklace is the best bet. With a co-worker, you should go no further than earrings, doing so will send the wrong message and it could get you in a lot of trouble. So think about your choices and make the right one, it can mean a lot to your relationship.

Silver, used in its raw form, is about 99.9% pure and is too soft for producing large durable objects which is why in Sterling silver, copper is alloyed with the silver metal to give the metal strength while retaining the same physical characteristics of ductility and high metal content of fine silver.

Silver sterling was a term coined in England during the 13th century. There are several sources of the term sterling and one of these is when it was first mentioned as sterilensis in 1070 AD. Sterling silver then started appearing more frequently in the history books by 1200 AD. The origin of sterling is known to come from esterlin (Old Norman French) which means little star and steire (Old English) which means strong, immovable and firm.

Sterling Silver was initially popularized during the period of 1840 to 1940 in the US and Europe. The hype with silver started with flatwares which became the standard when setting the table in any household. During the Victorian period, the number of courses increased from three to ten or more courses. Even the forks, spoons and knives used were customized to match the courses offered.

Slowly the silver craze was extended to other objects used both in offices and homes. But by World War II, the costs increased so much so that sterling fell out of favor around that time. At that point, only the well-off could afford to maintain the number of servants required for the ten courses served during meals.

If there’s one alternative to diamonds that would be gold – and especially gold necklaces. If you are a gold jewelry aficionado necklaces are definitely the hippest. Yet if you want to get only the best gold necklaces you should start setting your standards to get the best quality you can afford.

Though gold necklaces are really head-turning it would be much more satisfying to see that what you acquired was worth all the costs you incurred. Perhaps the 18-carat gold is the most renowned type because of its durable character and its elegant beauty. But they can be made from the flimsiest 18-carat gold. If you settle to purchase a 24-carat necklace chances are you would have a problem because it is naturally soft and effortlessly bends. It needs treating with care and respect. However, gold such as 14-carat gold often has the problem that its composition is a mixture with additional metals which in effect fades its color slightly.

Keep jade out of direct

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Keep jade out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and keep from drastic tempurature changes. There are many good books on jade and its care. You can go to your local library or look put jade on the internet.

Typically, jade bracelets come cut as a solid bangle or as a flexible bracelet with several sections of jade held by metal end caps and joints between pieces. With your bracelet, adding the spacer is a good idea but you will have to have two spacers, not one.

Since the solid jade is not flexible, the bracelet will need to be cut on opposite sides so each half may be connected with a spacer. You will need to find someone with a fine blade diamond saw to cut the jade. These saws are motorized using a 6″ or so circular blade of thin design. Steel tools simply will not do the job. You want a fine and neat cut so the ends are parallel and match nicely.

If a jeweler cannot do this(most will not have fine diamond rock saws) one suggestion is to contact a local rock and gem shop. The rock and gem shops cater to folks who like to do their own stone polishing and a diamond saw is one of the basic tools of the hobby. Ask the rock shop if they can recommend someone has a “thin kerf” rock saw. People who do faceted stones or cut opal are most likely to have the diamond saw with a fine(thin) blade and may cut the bracelet for you. The rock shop may also offer this service for a minimal fee.

Spacers will take the form of “end caps” or shallow cups into which the jade is cemented. The spacers could be made with two opposing caps (shallow tubes) for joining the jade ends, with one spacer on each side of the bracelet. Any competent bench jeweler should be able to fabricate the spacer from silver stock or use available silver “findings” to make the caps. Findings is the word used by jewelers to describe the “parts” used in jewelry work, such as ring shanks, stone settings, clasps, catches, etc.

The use of a single section of silver tube for each spacer is possible but that depends on the angle of the jade at the cut ends and availability of silver tube of large enough diameter.

Yes, the job is certainly possible and not very difficult to do. The problem is getting the bracelet sawn in-two cleanly. After that, having the spacers made should not be a daunting task at all. If you wanted, the spacers could be made one with a clasp and the other with a hinge, providing a bangle which opens and closes to be placed on the arm.

Joining the jade to the spacer cups (or tubes) will be a cement designed for such work. I suggest a fine quality epoxy cement which cures to a water clear color. One such cement is Hughes 330, designed for joining gemstone material and metals. Other epoxy cements will work just so long as the cement is applied with care with little excess to show at the caps.

The next major decision you must make

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

The next major decision you must make is the number of karats in the gold wedding bands. So what the heck do karats measure? Pure gold has 24 karats and is the measurement unit in which gold purity is evaluated. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase a wedding band made of 24 karats as gold at this level is not strong enough to be used for jewelery. Alloys must be added in order to make gold strong enough to be worn around your ring finger. Typically, you must choose between 14 K gold and 18 K gold. 14 K gold is approximately 58% pure gold (you can do the math… 14 K divided by 24 K) 18 K gold is approximately 75% pure gold ( 18 K divided by 24 K). So what is the difference? 18 K yellow gold has a somewhat deeper yellow color although it can’t necessarily be distinguished from 14 K by the naked eye. 14 K white gold and 18 K white gold have a similar white color (as normally both have a rhodium plating finish). As it is more pure, 18K is slightly softer than 14 K…. This may be something to consider if you do a lot of physical work with your hands. Also, another interesting factoid is that 14 K is typically more popular than 18 K gold wedding bands amongst consumers in the U.S.

What can you do if you have one solitaire loose diamond? Well, unless you are just keeping it for investment purposes, you will probably want to have it set in a piece of jewelry of some sort. The only real problem with that is the overwhelming task of deciding what kind of setting to choose.

Do you want a pendant for a necklace, a beautiful ring, or perhaps a broche? Once you decide that part of the equation, then you have to decide on the style you like. Does a modern look suit your fancy or would you prefer a more antique look?

When you have decided what piece of jewelry and the style you want to make with your diamond, then you can consider if it needs embellishment of any kind. Surrounding a solitaire one with smaller ones can add a lot of glamour to a piece. Smaller diamonds can be inexpensive, depending on their quality. Gemstones with striking color, such as rubies or sapphires can give a piece of jewelry even more flare. Using smaller stones can play up a good solitaire one, or it can help detract attention from the flaws of a lesser quality diamond. Just remember that if you are going to embellish a solitaire with smaller surrounding them the color of the stones need to match.

Choosing the right-size pearls

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Choosing the right-size pearls

When buying white pearl collar necklaces, it’s a good idea to consider the age, face shape and body composition of the wearer. Generally, smaller pearls look best for children and teens, medium pearls for women in the 20s to the 30s while older women may look best in bigger pearls.

A good thing to remember is that the pearl collar is worn as an accessory and thus should not overwhelm the face. Otherwise, nobody will notice the wearer anymore. It will only be the pearls that they will see. Worse, if the size isn’t right, it will look like your pearls are borrowed from someone else.

Whether you and he have discussed marriage

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Whether you and he have discussed marriage or you just have a hunch that he may pop the question in the near future, you’ve probably given some thought to a diamond ring. If you and your intended shop for your diamond ring together, become familiar with the elements of diamond quality before you get to the mall. Invented by the Gemological Institute of America, the diamond grading system is commonly known as the “4 Cs” – carat, clarity, color and cut.

Carat weight measures a diamond’s size. Each carat is equal to 100 points. Thus, a .75-carat diamond is the same as a 75-point stone or a 3/4-carat diamond. According to the Diamond Information Center, the larger a diamond, the more rare it is. Not only are larger diamonds found infrequently in nature, but they also show off the stone’s color and cut to the best advantage.

According to the Diamond Information Center, the purer a diamond, the more brilliant it is. A diamond’s clarity is judged by the number, color, type, size and position of inclusions – “nature’s birthmarks” – it contains. The fewer inclusions the stone has – as determined by a grading system – the more valuable it is.

The purer the color of a diamond, the more rare it is. Truly colorless diamonds are the most valuable, while those with subtle yellow or brown tones – as determined by a grading system – are less so. Comparing stones side by side is the best way to see the color of each stone.

The Diamond Information Center maintains that, while nature is responsible for the other three Cs, it is the cut of a stone that releases its sparkle and beauty. When a diamond is cut to good proportions, light will reflect from one mirror-like facet to another and disperse through the top of the stone, resulting in a display of its brilliance.

There are several different shapes of cut diamonds; the one you choose depends upon your personal taste. Marquis cuts are out of style, but Princess, Round, Oval, and Emerald diamond rings are chosen by many couples.

While diamond rings have traditionally been comprised of a single diamond or solitaire, the current trend is a ring with a center stone and side diamonds. As for settings, there are over half-dozen categories to choose from. The prong setting is still the first choice for most buyers, but that the bezel setting is also popular. And, while yellow gold may make a comeback in the future, the hot metal for diamond rings is still platinum. While it’s pricier, it’s also heavier, hypoallergenic, and will never tarnish.

White gold is routinely alloyed down with nickel. Nickel causes allergic reactions in a lot of people.
It’s probably showing up now, because your ring was plated in rhodium (the whitest member of the platinum family) when you bought it. This is normal, as white gold always has a little warmth to it, so it is almost always plated in rhodium.
