Pearl Nacre – The iridescent internal layer of a mollusk shell. It is a natural substance oyster secretes to protect its sensitive flesh. Thicker layer commands more value because of its greater luster depth.
Pearl Color- Surface color or body color – Most irradiated or dyed pearls have surface colors. The natural pearl colors are white, black, champagne, green, gray, aqua and gold. Again within each category there are common overtones.
Pearl Size – Pearls are commonly measured in millimeters (mm) in their diameter. Large size pearls carry higher prices. Even 1 mm makes the difference.
Pearl Surface – If outer surface is very clean and have very few blemishes such pearls carry higher value.
Pearl Shape – The perfect round shape always have higher pearl values but near round or off round are very much common and sold everyday. Some other shapes are potato shape; drop tear shapes, pear shapes and irregular baroque shape pearls and coin shapes etc.
As you may have noticed, freshwater pearl jewelry is less expensive. And you know the Akoya pearl is more expensive….

The pearl industry has been perfecting the spherically shaped pearls and takes precaution to ensure the natural pearl making process is completed. They do this by using x-rays to determine if the nucleus of the oysters is still inside or not. If not, they will place another nucleus or bead inside for completion of the pearl-making process.
Keshi pearls are used more for avant-garde jewelry than for the classic pearl strands that we see today. They can also be made into beautiful bracelets and chandelier earrings. Unlike round-shaped pearls, Keshi pearls give a more modern look to jewelry and have a more flexible use. They can also be incorporated into rings, brooches, pendants and even beautiful tiaras. Keshi pearls have become the choice pearls for this modern age.
When buying discount pearl jewelry you don’t have to compromise on quality as pearl jewelry comes in various price ranges. Some pearl jewelry stores hype their quality as AAAA quality pearls to jack up prices, where in fact, you may be getting A or AA quality pearls. There is no such AAAA quality grading set by any of the pearl jewelry industry either in US and abroad or by any laboratory or any institutions around the globe. It is simply false and it is a red flag.
First of all it is best to understand the type of pearls and the quality. Most of us perhaps already know that when it comes diamonds, Four C’s – Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat are determining factors for the value of any diamond. Then how about pearls?

The highly prized ones are the spherical in shape. If the pearls are cut out of the mollusk shell, it has a semi-spherical shape and called a button pearl. If it is irregular in shape, it is called a baroque pearl. There are many shapes and sizes of pearls and the pearl trade industry classifies some of them according to shape as bell, drop or pear and according to color like white, rose, cream and black. The most beautiful pearls come from the Persian Gulf but some places such as Baja California, Mexico and the Gulf of Panama also produces some high-quality pearls. Freshwater pearls are also gaining popularity and are produced by freshwater mussels. China is one of the leading producers of freshwater river pearls.
There are also pearls which are produced by an unnatural process of pearl formation. Instead of being formed through the repetitive coating of nacre over a foreign substance, some pearls are formed when the mollusk shell spits out the foreign substance (usually a piece of shell) even before the process of coating is complete. The result is a Keshi pearl.
Keshi means “poppy seed” in Japan and the pearls look like that. Japan has started to culture pearls as early as the 1920s, starting with spherical spheres but has branched on to other shaped and sized pearls. Keshi pearls cannot really be considered a natural pearl in its most literal terms since it does not complete the pearl-making process. However, they are still valued in the same way as natural pearls since their occurrence is infrequent and their quality in terms of luster is still topnotch.
On some day, one of my friends carry a wide selection of pearl jewelry, from pearl beads, cultured pearl strands, freshwater pearl neckalce, pearl bracelet, wholesale pearl ring, freshwater pearl earrings, other shaped pearls and cultured pearl pendant, freshwater pearl earrings to cheap sterling silver jewelry and full sets of pearl jewelry, expertly hand-crafted using only the fines pearls by pearl wholesale store to me. The very modern take on a very classy piece of pearl jewelry gave way to baroque pearls as becoming a fashion statement. It also became fashionable to file strands of pearls as bracelets, earrings and rings. Baroque pearls were much preferred for their flexibility, color, size and shape. They are also much more inexpensive compared to spherical ones. Ironically, it is their imperfection that has made them a commercial success.

Pearls are highly valued as gemstones. They define true elegance. Pearls have adorned the necks of the most beautiful women through time such as Queen Elizabeth down to modern day icons like Jackie Onassis and Princess Diana. What makes pearl jewelry the “it” item when it comes to ladies’ accessories is its sheer elegance and simplicity. It makes any outfit classy and beautiful. Women in England at a time made it a habit to wear pearl necklaces or pearl earrings to important functions like parties and even to church. The fad caught on and pearls today are one of the most valued pieces of jewelry.
Pearls are made from a substance called nacre or mother-of-pearl. They are substance formed by bivalve mollusks, secreted to get rid of irritants in the mollusk inner layers of the body. Foreign particles often enter the mollusk body and it reacts by secreting nacre, a form of aragonite crystal that coats the irritant in layers of nacreous substance.

Cultured pearls usually form spherical shapes but baroque pearls are produced through the culturing process. In the past, they have been considered failed attempts but they are now highly valued for their color and their distinct shapes.
Natural baroque pearls however, are more treasured because of their beautiful colors and luster. Tahitian baroque pearls are among the best. Jeremy Shepherd, CEO of a pearl-trading company describes them as having “turquoise and peacock overtones”. They have a quality in them that can be attributed to the waters as well as the types of mollusks and mussels found in the islands.
They can be made into stunning pieces of jewelry. Diana Holden, a jeweler says that baroque pearls are very flexible pieces of gemstones because of their shapes. She likes using them for her avant-garde designs that younger people like to wear. Although spherical pearls occupy the top position, their perfection can be monotonous. Holden says she likes the naturally made baroque pearls versus the cultured ones because their colors can be unexpected. However, for pieces that require uniformity, she relies on freshwater cultured baroque pearls.
You can make practically any type of jewelry with baroque pearls. Necklaces are common items. The teardrop-shapes can rest as the pendant while smaller ones can complete the strand. Just a few years ago, pearls hit the market in a big way. Women started wearing pearl strands as well as chandelier pearl earrings in many different lengths and sizes.
Wholesale jewelry store can provide the perfect choice for wedding jewelry. China is now the top producers of these gems. There are some samples, for example pearl necklace, cultured pearl necklace, multi-strand necklace, wholesale pearl beads, cheap pearl bracelet, wholesale pearl earings, wholesale pearl pendant and single pearl necklace, opera or rope necklace though, that you need to look into when getting quality pearl jewelry, in any way you can look for some informations on the internet, in there you will find what you want, very interesting.

Pearl necklace sets are an investment, but they are well worth it. Pearls are very popular today and they are considered classic pieces in any jewelry collection. Unlike a lot of other pieces that you can buy, pearls will never go out of style. Women have been wearing pearls for centuries and this will likely continue as pearls are classy and versatile and now they are readily available, which helps.
Popular and common pearls are usually spherical in shape. They are formed by mollusks, which attempts to get rid of irritants that enter their shells as foreign objects or minute worms. A study conducted by scientists showed that the larva of a tapeworm is responsible for the irritation, causing the mollusk to secrete nacre coating to the irritant and forming the pearl. In freshwater mussels, flukes also act as irritants. But in general, sand is the most common culprit that forms the nucleus. The mollusk surrounds the irritant and excretes nacre, which solidifies into a thin layer. After which, more and more concentric layers re formed until a spherical pearl is formed.
Baroque pearls, on the other hand are solid but not so well-shaped. They are irregularly shaped and can come from freshwater pearls to saltwater pearls. They can be oval shaped or teardrop-shaped. Some Akoya pearls or the Japanese saltwater cultured pearls are also considered baroque. Mollusks or mussel shells are inserted with a foreign object that makes the animal react by secreting nacre to coat the irritant. The Japanese have pioneered in this type of industry, culturing pearls as early as the 1920s. They use a mother-of-pearl bead inserted into the mollusk or mussel, usually three-quarters to nine-tenths of the diameter of the desired size or shape of the pearl.

When you hear of fake pearls, it means that they are man-made pearls made of glass, ceramics, plastics or any other similar materials. They are also called “faux” pearls and are sold as costume jewelry. In the face of modern technology, man can create pearls that look like the original one. Mind you, fakes can have the exact original look, but they do not have the same weight or texture. And their luster is dimmer, which is enough to show that they are imitations of the original. They do not contain any gem value.
To help you with identifying genuine freshwater pearls, here is a three way test:
Tooth test – get the pearl and run it against your front teeth, just right below the biting edge. If you sense a gritty feeling, it is most probably real. Fake pearls are smooth, like plastic or glass. However, be very careful of the pearls that are made from ground shells as they can also be gritty.
Luster test – test the pearls against all kinds of light. Fake pearls will have a shine only on the surface, while genuine pearls always shine from within.
Rub test – get two pearls and rub it together. It should be gritty and do not slide off each other.
Pulling together a whole new look – there is nothing more beautiful than a pearl necklace, unless of course you compare them to pearl necklace sets. These sets are often comprised of a necklace, earrings, and even some times a ring and a bracelet. These pieces can all be worn alone but when you want to get dressed up and pull together a cohesive look there is nothing better than a great complete set.
Just about any jewelry store that you go to will feature a couple different jewelry sets for you to choose from. You might find that they have just a couple of the pieces in the store and they can order you additional pieces to fulfill the set. If this is the case, you may want to wait to buy until all of the pieces are in so you like all of the pieces equally.
In here you can choose more than a hundred special gifts for everyone on your list as convenient as me. First, you have to know the kind of pearl that is available in the market. They are categorized in two:
Saltwater pearls – these are formed inside oysters that are living in the heart of the ocean. It has three types – Tahitian, Akoya, and South Sea Pearls – depending on the kind of oyster that produced it.
Freshwater pearls – these are formed inside mussels that are living in lakes, rivers, ponds, or any other body of fresh water.
Either saltwater pearls or freshwater pearls can be natural or cultured. Natural means that there is no human intervention and the pearl is formed naturally by the oyster or mussel. The pearl oyster secretes nacre an iridescent material made of calcium carbonate. The nacre will coat a microscopic irritant entering its shell until a pearl is formed. On the other hand, cultured means that a pearl grower will carefully open the shell and introduce a small object as an irritant (commonly a bead or metal), then get them back into the water and wait for the pearl to form. This usually takes 2-5 years.
There are a lot of fake pearls out there, but it is more pleasant to own a genuine pearl jewelry at least once in your lifetime. A genuine pearl does not only mean “natural”. Even “cultured” pearls are genuine pearls too, having an advantage of being more affordable than natural pearls.
This kind of pearl wholesale can fit anyone’s lifestyle and personality. You can make every day truly memorable occasion when you shop this convenient online wholesale pearl collection. Never seen the show? It centers around a spoiled teen or two, trailing them as they plan their sweet sixteen party, make outrageous, selfish demands, shed tears, throw tantrums, and torture their peers with lines like, “You’re not important enough to be invited.” Oh, and then there’s footage of the actual party, where the guest of honor may enter riding on a litter, behind the wheel of a luxury car, pulled by horses, or shuttled in a helicopter. The featured entertainment might be Kanye West, Ciara, Rihanna, or Diddy, the king of nouveau rich tasteless excess himself, to name a few. At the end of the night, the kids are presented with sweet sixteen gifts such as luxury vehicles (some get two!), jewelry and even homes. Their overindulgent, self-satisfied parents, portrayed to be every bit as awful as their kids—the truth, or the result of careful editing we don’t know—gloat in the background. I guess money can’t buy happiness, but it sure can by popularity.
Before you get too jealous of these pampered kids, consider how tough they have it, with their every whim catered to, their every foot-stamping demand met. As one teen put it, “Being rich is hard work!” Indeed.
The materialism and extravagance of MTV’s show is a far cry from what the average teen can expect. Thank goodness, or we’d have a nation of brats, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. (TIME magazine’s Anne Marie Cox wrote of MTV’s teens in a recent article, “Their blingy flings are not celebrations of accomplishment; they’re celebrations of self.”) Even debutantes, those clichéd well-to-do southern belles, hold a coming out ball ostensibly not to show off, but to be formally introduced to polite society. What’s more, these debutante balls are often charity occasions, “in which the parents of the young ladies, as well as all attending, must contribute a certain sum of money to the cause at hand,” according to Wikipedia.
