The type of jewelry that teens

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

The type of jewelry that teens wear is most of the time derived from what they see on TV and in the magazines. The emergence of the MTV culture is one of powerful factors that affect teen jewelry. Teens try to attain the kind of image that their celebrity idols have so they imitate the kind jewelries that these celebrities wear.

Clean the ends well with alcohol. This is needed to remove any traces of oils, etc. which will lead to a joint failure later. Arrange a means to hold the ends together so the ends will not be moved until the cement cures. Do this arrangement first and be certain it will work.

Then, mix the two part cement according to directions. Apply only enough cement to one broken edge to cover the end with a little cement. Push the pieces together and see if too much runs out the edges. If so, wipe off before the cement starts to cure then place together again. Hold the pieces in place as mentioned already.

Leave the left over on a mixing paper or plastic, whatever is used to mix the cement and place the mixer(toothpick, paper clip or other handy object) into the unused part. When the object is cemented hard on the unused portion of the cement, you know the jade is also cured and may be handled.

Excess if any may be carefully trimmed with a razor edge or left alone. Trimming of extruded cement will often leave a white and easily seen line. Sometimes it is best to leave the cement as is.

If you have way too much cement and way too much is pushed from the joined edges, clean in acetone or nail polish remover. Clean well as you can. Then start again with a new mix of the epoxy. Do not use “super glue” since this will not hold strongly for a long period of time.

If you want to try to do the work, I believe you can. The first try might be messy and you might have to try a second time. If you want someone else to do it, a jeweler should be able to cement the pieces together for your repair depends on the sort of break in the bracelet. If the jade is broken and the ends of the break fit fairly well, a jeweler (or you if handy with such) may use a good epoxy cement to join the ends. A recommended epoxy is Hughes 330, recommended because it cures water clear and is quite strong with gemstone materials. In any case, epoxy cements have no strength when first mixed. The cure brings the strength. If you try it yourself, dry fit first to find a way to support the pieces during the 2 hour cure time.

If the break is jagged and the ends do not fit, the best solution is to have a jeweler make a metal tube, either of silver or gold, to go over the broken ends and bring all together as a jade bangle with “metal fittings”. The tube will need to have two ends angled to fit the curve of the jade pieces at each break.

Turquoise is also the birthstone

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Turquoise is also the birthstone for anyone born in the month of October. It makes for a perfect birthday gift, but doesn’t need to be limited to only October. Women everywhere love this pale blue gem. It can make for a good wedding or anniversary gift as well.

So, if you are looking for a jewel that is not only beautiful, but one that has been around for centuries, then you need the warmth and beauty of turquoise jewelry.
Another name for Black Pearl is the Tahitian Pearl. The story behind the name is the way how the pearl is produced. It is made from the large, black lipped pearl oyster that is called the Tahitian black pear oyster. This mollusk is located in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean.

Tahiti is popular for its crystalline and tranquil waters coaxing tourists to visit their shores for a well-deserved break. The beautiful islands surrounding the grounds add up to the rarity of the black pearl produced by the black-lipped oyster.

Historically, the first pearl farms that started searching for Tahitian pearls are located in Hikueru in the 1960s. Hikueru is the island in Bora Bora. Successful harvests then led to the exports of Tahitian Black Pearls from 1965 until 1972. Hikieru was notorious for their production of these precious materials.

The poet Sadi wrote in an interesting fable that a drop of water fell from a cloud into the sea one day. It felt confused and at the same time ashamed because it was set side by side with an immense body of water. It believed that its existence is nothing compared to the boundless abyss. Then to its surprise, it blossomed in the bosom of the pearl-shell and became a magnificent black pearl. Later on, it donned the crown of a king.

That’s why Oriental people consider the Tahitian pearl so precious because of the legend connected to it. The story mentioned above shows a lesson that by being humble one can gain exaltation.

But in reality, Tahitian pearls can be cultivated. When a pearl is said to be cultivated, human beings assisted in creating such an organic gem. True that each pearl begins as a piece from the mollusk or oyster but once the nacre kicks in and forms layers after layer, then the pearl is produced later on.

Black Tahitian pearl earrings are magnificent creation and has become to be the most popular pearl in the world. These earrings are luminous and are celebrated for their rich, deep colors. Amazingly, they have a perfect spherical shape.

Pearl experts know that obtaining a spherically perfect pearl is a rarity for pearl farmers. The closest to it being a perfect circle, the more valuable the pearl. As for black Tahitian pearl earrings, a majority of them have perfect spherical shapes. That is exactly the reason why these make the wearer stand out when in a crowd. Black Tahitian pearl earrings are simply exquisite.

For most men, it’s not realistic

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

For most men, it’s not realistic to go deeply into debt in order to buy jewelry. Indeed, extravagant jewelry often is locked in a vault or a safe, rather than being worn and enjoyed by the recipient. There are many affordable rings available that can express feelings of love and appreciation, and which will be worn with pride by the recipient. Discount rings can be unique and elegant, with a style that mimics the most costly designer jewelry. In contrast to guidelines provided by the jewelry industry, you can buy affordable rings that your recipient will treasure.

When selecting a ring, think about the setting. A 10k gold ring is as beautiful as a 14k gold ring, but is a more affordable purchase. A 10k gold ring setting can be found in both yellow gold and white gold, and will set off the stones just as beautifully as a 14k setting.

The next element to consider is the gem stone. A natural gem stone will come to life in a 10k gold ring setting. Peridot, blue topaz, citrine, amethyst, ruby, garnet, emerald, and sapphire would each make for the perfect natural gem stone to coordinate with a 10k gold ring setting.

Finally, when considering buying affordable rings, think about the size and cut of the natural gem stone. Although the jewelry industry would lead you to believe that bigger is better, a number of small stones in an elegant and unique designer setting can be even more striking than a single large natural gem stone. For example, imagine ten small round cut diamonds on either side of five small rubies in a 10k gold ring setting. Or consider the glitter and sparkle of six marquise cut blue topaz stones set as flower petals surrounded by thirteen small round cut diamonds. Nine small round cut diamonds in a heart shaped setting with an elegant band can be breathtaking.

Whether you’re looking for a promise ring, an engagement ring, or a gift for that special anniversary, birthday, or Valentine’s Day present, you don’t have to spend a fortune. Affordable rings will convey your feelings and be worn with appreciation by the woman you love.
Do you know a woman who is about to retire? Someone who has touched your life somehow? She could be your teacher, a good colleague, a relative or even your mother. Have you ever wondered of how to show them that their life long efforts will always be remembered?

Enough of the shawls or scarves, or even of the chocolates and flowers. Just think how many times she must have received these gifts in a year. Her retirement day is surely not the same as any other occasions gone by. It is a once in a lifetime event, and because of that, it deserves a special and unique gift.

And what could be more special and unique than a set of pearl jewelries? No, your gift doesn’t have to be very expensive. Unlike before, only the richest of people could afford them, but not anymore.

Poets from the Orient believe

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Poets from the Orient believe that every sixteenth day of the Nisan month each year, the pearl oysters rise up above the sea. Their shells open up in order to get raindrops falling from the skies above.
Although Japan has been renowned for its pearl production till now, the trend is slowly changing with China emerging as the new contender for accounting of the largest production of Akoya pearls. However, majority of the Akoya pearls produced by china are still imported to Japan for processing purposes.
All things that glitter draw the eye, and jewelry tops this list. The love of jewelry pieces knows no social class or social boundary. There are the faux pieces of jewelry worn by children, the belly rings of teenagers, the class rings of college graduates, the engagement ring of newly engaged couples, the wedding ring of married couples, the heirloom jewels from the grandparents. Everyone is touched by the power and lure of this seemingly magical artwork. However, do people really appreciate jewelry as a work of art, or do people just regard jewelry pieces as embellishments?

Love of Jewelry: If the Price is Right

It is sad to note that jewelry as a form of art is actually taken for granted. The art in a jewelry piece is less noticed and less praised compared to the art in paintings and sculpture.

Sure, people will gaze in wonder at a four-carat diamond on an engagement ring. Certainly, people will notice if you wear a diamond tennis bracelet to your prom party. However, the appreciation for jewelry is almost always confined to the cost of the item and the prestige that goes with owning such an obviously expensive piece. The appreciation lies, therefore, not on the work and the artistry that goes into the production of the jewelry piece. It lies more on its weight, its size, and its prize tag.

This single-minded focus on the cost of jewelry as well as the neglect of the jewelry’s form, design and details has taken away the appreciation for jewelry as a true form of art. Jewelry has regressed to nothing but an expensive and brazen wealth exhibit.

This disconnection from the true and pure meaning of jewelry can be attributed to the materialistic mindset that’s prevalent today. Jewelry is viewed as a status symbol or an investment, thus the price of the jewelry is given more weight. Unless people learn to appreciate and give value to the artistry behind the design of the jewelry, true appreciation of the art of jewelry making may be slow to come by.
There’s a profound truth to the saying, “It’s not the cost of the gift, but the thought behind it.” Gifts of jewelry create precious memories, yet all too often the person giving the gift feels as though he must spend more than he can afford in order to demonstrate his feelings to the woman he loves. Unfortunately, the jewelry industry often reinforces this belief, going so far as to offer guidelines about what a man should spend on an engagement ring, for example. (The “guideline” is two months’ salary.)

Wholesale jewelry store can provide the perfect choice for wedding jewelry. China is now the top producers of these gems. There are some samples, for example pearl necklace, cultured pearl necklace, multi-strand necklace, wholesale pearl beads, cheap pearl bracelet, wholesale pearl earings, wholesale pearl pendant and single pearl necklace, opera or rope necklace though, that you need to look into when getting quality pearl jewelry, in any way you can look for some informations on the internet, in there you will find what you want, very interesting.

There is not a one-in-all

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

There is not a one-in-all test I can recommend. Some of this will simply require some “pearls” of real and fakes for comparison.

Even the jewelers are fooled once in a while but not often.Have you seen Mabe pearls? These are the large “half pearls” often seen in rings and pendants. Some years ago some really good fakes hit the market and were being sold at very competitive prices’that is, compared to the real ones. Many were sold and bought as the real thing! The testing for these required disassembly of the fake mabes plus solvent and acid tests. A lot of buyers were taken in on this one, likely never to know they bought and later sold fake mabe pearls.
When it comes to bestowing gifts to your lady love, nothing can surpass the charm of traditional pearl jewelry. Pearls have always been one of the most charming jewels among the other exotic designer items.

A pearl can be best described as an extremely hard and rounded object which is formed within a soft tissue of a living mollusk. Only those pearls which are judged to be of highest quality are deemed fit to be used in the business of jewelry design. However, there may be varying standards among all the high quality pearls which are used for the purpose of jewelry designing. These can be classified on the basis of their luster, color, size and lack of surface flaw. Out of all these aforementioned attributes, luster of a pearl is one of the factors which play an extremely important role in determining the true standard of this gem.

There are a variety of designs available in pearls, depending upon their size and shape, such as rounded, tear drop, semi-round and button pearls. One such famous category of pearls is Akoya pearls.
While cleaning costume jewelry, you should always be cautions and use brushes with soft bristles or wooden toothpicks, a hair dryer, cotton swabs and towels. You should never try to use water or high concentrated cleaning agents, as the safest method to clean vintage jewelry is also the driest method. If you wish to just clear the dust of your vintage collection, start by using dry baby brushes and if your rhinestone necklace has a fingerprint or smudge, then you can go ahead and use a cotton swab with some mild cleaning solution.

Do not use soap or water to clean vintage jewelry as soap leaves a residue over the metal and thus makes the metal and the stones look dull. Water damages delicate stones and the polish. Vinegar is also considered as a harmful cleaning agent. Do not leave your vintage jewelry wet, as it will lose its sheen. You must dry the pieces thoroughly before and after adorning it. Store your vintage jewelry in a dry place because dampness encourages rusts, verdigris, and other damaging conditions.

Akoya pearls are original Japanese cultured pearls, which are produced by a species of a small pearl oyster that goes by the name of Pinctada fucata martensii. Hence, it is a pretty tough task to even find an Akoya pearl which measures about 10mm in size and needless to say, few of the pearls from this species which actually manage to cross this mark are considered extremely rare and invaluable. However, with the advent of latest scientific technology in the field of pearl farming, a hybrid species of this mollusk is being used in both China and Japan . Over the last few decades, these two countries which are considered to be the chief manufacturers of Akoya pearls.

Silver is used extensively in boys’ jewelry

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Silver is used extensively in boys’ jewelry. Chains made of black rubber chord with a sterling silver pendant are popular among boys. Lovers of soccer enjoy soccer ball pendants and bracelets set in white gold. Crosses and St. Christopher pendants are examples of religious jewelry worn by both boys and girls.

Teenagers wear fashion jewelry to establish an identity for themselves. Any new trend lasts for about six months. Many teenagers like spiritual jewelry that uses healing stones, crystals, and other symbols of major religions. Some boys like to pierce just one ear and wear a small stud earring. Some teens sport a rugged look wearing jewelry made of leather, hemp and pewter. Gold jewelry is generally reserved for formal occasions.
Murano glass jewelry is made from original Murano glass. Murano glass comes from the Murano, the glasswork capital of the world in the 13th Century. Glass working technologies such as crystalline glass, milleflori, enameled glass, multi-colored glass, smoke glass, and milk gas all came from Murano.

The most popular jewelry made from Morano Ventian glass beads are Millefiori pendants. Millefiori, which stands for a thousand flowers, gets its name from several floral designs and geometric shapes, which build up its mosaic design. The mosaic appearance of Millefiori pendants is due to the designs of the glass rods themselves.

The glass rods are made of multiple layers of colored glass fused together making up a uniform design along the cross section of the rod. These designed rods are heated so they become soft enough to stretch, all the while maintaining its cross section design. Stretching the rods makes them easier to cut into the many small tubes, which are responsible for the intricate design of the millefiore. These tubes are then carefully laid out, piece by piece, in a metal ring, which may vary in both size and shape depending on the desired result.

Common shapes of millefiore pendants are sometimes hearts, stars, but more commonly just circles. Once all the tubes or disks are laid out nicely, the pieces are heated in a furnace to fuse. What comes from this is the completed centerpiece of the pendant. The pendant is completed by framing the gem in sterling silver or gold and then strung with a chain.

We all love jewelry and are guided by the traditional types. This is to be expected as jewelry that is bright and shiny can look gret. But, have you considered wooden jewelry? It might be worth a look.

Wooden jewelry today is slowly making its way into the jewelry market, but being jewelry made of wood, we expect common designs such as fruits, flowers and plants. Wood jewelry varies in form. Common forms are brooches, pins, hair accessories, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and anklets, and to make it more interesting, it is made of brightly colored natural wood with a little hint of metal and other material combinations.

Designs today of wooden jewelry have also become international. Amazingly, ancient designs and concepts are still incorporated in these products. Additional embellishments though are small pieces of metal, plastic beads and precious stones.

freshwater pearl earrings

freshwater pearl earrings
Make your dressing table look stunning by decorating it with a range of earring holders, necklace torso and ring hands. Our personal rooms are so much more enjoyable when they reflect who we are and what we value. Throughout history we have learned so much about cultures, civilizations and individual women by their jewelry as it is such a strong indicator of the individual, of personal style.

You can get earring holders and necklace stands that vary in height and format to give a structured and varied professional looking jewelry display. You can go the other way of getting all matching stands for a unified look that is varied by the your wardrobe themes. The choice of structure is yours. For me I use a variation of stands that are all brought together by their general shape and form. So you can go with angled, hard edges or fluid forms that flow.

Using portable jewelry display stands lets you move the order of them around to find the arrangement that best show off yours in the way you like best and get the most enjoyment from. This lets you reorganize your display to suit different seasons, trying out ideas, different locations and a change in style. When you get that fabulous new necklace and earring set you want it to take pride of place so that means moving the other favorites around. Personally I find this loads of fun but then I am a jewelry lover who loves playing with my treasures.

how to care pearl jewelry
To display them to the best effect you want display fixtures that do the work for you, especially with ones that show off your trinkets just right. This is simply done by getting jewelry display supplies from vendors that have a great collection for you to choose from. I know it took me a while to get mine but now I have them all under one roof and get more whenever I want them for me and my friends.

I am a jewelry addict. I’ve loved to collect jewelry, much like one might collect stamps or sports memorabilia. I have it all – bracelets, earrings, anklets, toe rings, brooches, lockets, and thumb rings. I’ll admit, it’s gotten a bit out of hand. I realized that it was becoming a problem shortly after I moved into a new apartment that was much smaller than the place I’d previously lived. Soon, my abundant jewelry collection seemed to take over the space. It was spread out over the kitchen table, on countertops, atop the bathroom vanity, and on pretty much every other available surface. It was getting ridiculous, and I was becoming frustrated by the chaos. When I lost one of my favorite pieces, I decided that something had to be done. So, I looked into purchasing a jewelry armoire.

One other rule in cleaning jewelry

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

One other rule in cleaning jewelry is to proceed with caution. If you aren’t sure about the chemical content of the soap you’re using, try applying it on a less conspicuous section of your jewelry first. Oftentimes chemical reactions occur right away, so you should see if the washing powder has any effect on the metals which comprise of your jewelry.

Proceeding with caution also means that you don’t want to go ahead and start with literal scrubbing. If you can simply wipe off dirt from your jewelry, stick to just wiping it. Once you finish cleaning your jewelry, make sure it’s dry before you store it. Keep jewelry in dry, cool and closed containers. Heat and exposure to the sun can damage your jewelry significantly.

Mother of pearl
Mother of pearl is the iridescent substance called nacre, found on the inside of some mollusks. The word nacre comes from the Arab word naqqarah which means shell. It has been used for ornament, decoration and jewelry since 3000 B.C.E. Tombs have been discovered on the sites of ancient Mesopotamia in the Middle East that contained items made of mother of pearl. In some ancient cultures it was valued more than pearls. Before the 19th century, Japanese shell divers would discard any pearls found in the oysters they got, and keep the shell.

Ancient China also used mother of pearl for decorative inlay for various objects and jewelry. The Chinese powdered it and used it in medicines and prescribed it to lower blood pressure, as a cure for dizziness and as a heart medication. Native populations of South and North America also used mother of pearl for decoration and medicine.

the main source of mother of pearl
In the Middle Ages in Europe, the main source of mother of pearl was the Persian Gulf. By the 16th century, this source had been depleted due to the huge demand. New sources were found in the Pacific. Areas in the Pacific such as The Solomon Islands and Tahiti were then plundered of their supply of nacre producing mollusks until the late 1880’s when France gained control of Tahiti and restricted it. By the early 20th century the area was no longer a source of nacre.

In America, mother of pearl had been used mostly as an inlay for furniture until the 19th century saw it used for buttons. Muscatine, Iowa became the center of pearl button manufacture, and ‘clammers’ fished the Mississippi and other rivers for the nacre producing fresh water mussels. The buttons would be formed by punching out round pieces of the mussel shell. Billions of pearl buttons were manufactured, but they were very labor intensive to produce. By the beginning of World War II, the pearl button industry shifted to the production of plastic buttons as they were less expensive to make.

Whether you and he have discussed marriage

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Whether you and he have discussed marriage or you just have a hunch that he may pop the question in the near future, you’ve probably given some thought to a diamond ring. If you and your intended shop for your diamond ring together, become familiar with the elements of diamond quality before you get to the mall. Invented by the Gemological Institute of America, the diamond grading system is commonly known as the “4 Cs” – carat, clarity, color and cut.

Carat weight measures a diamond’s size. Each carat is equal to 100 points. Thus, a .75-carat diamond is the same as a 75-point stone or a 3/4-carat diamond. According to the Diamond Information Center, the larger a diamond, the more rare it is. Not only are larger diamonds found infrequently in nature, but they also show off the stone’s color and cut to the best advantage.

According to the Diamond Information Center, the purer a diamond, the more brilliant it is. A diamond’s clarity is judged by the number, color, type, size and position of inclusions – “nature’s birthmarks” – it contains. The fewer inclusions the stone has – as determined by a grading system – the more valuable it is.

The purer the color of a diamond, the more rare it is. Truly colorless diamonds are the most valuable, while those with subtle yellow or brown tones – as determined by a grading system – are less so. Comparing stones side by side is the best way to see the color of each stone.

The Diamond Information Center maintains that, while nature is responsible for the other three Cs, it is the cut of a stone that releases its sparkle and beauty. When a diamond is cut to good proportions, light will reflect from one mirror-like facet to another and disperse through the top of the stone, resulting in a display of its brilliance.

There are several different shapes of cut diamonds; the one you choose depends upon your personal taste. Marquis cuts are out of style, but Princess, Round, Oval, and Emerald diamond rings are chosen by many couples.

While diamond rings have traditionally been comprised of a single diamond or solitaire, the current trend is a ring with a center stone and side diamonds. As for settings, there are over half-dozen categories to choose from. The prong setting is still the first choice for most buyers, but that the bezel setting is also popular. And, while yellow gold may make a comeback in the future, the hot metal for diamond rings is still platinum. While it’s pricier, it’s also heavier, hypoallergenic, and will never tarnish.

Do you find more knowledge on how to care freshwater pearl jewelry, pearl necklace set, turquoise jewelry, coral jewelry, shell jewelry, shell pearl jewelry and sterling silver jewelry, also you can get more knowledge on how to match pearl necklace, multi-strands necklaces, pearl bracelet, pearl earrings to your different styles of clothes. In fact, one diamond ring

Monday, July 7th, 2008

In fact, one diamond ring may be equivalent to a couple of months of your apartment rental. Still, you don’t have to pay more if you can pay for it less? This is possible if you know the techniques that will help you find a quality diamond ring at discounted prices.

Read on and you might learn a trick or two.

Without knowing how much you are willing to shell out, you will not be able to find the diamond ring that will fit your needs. In order to set out for a cheaper diamond ring, you have to first determine what is cheap and what is expensive for you.

Be familiar with the prices

Unlike some commodities, diamond rings or any jewelry with diamonds on it do not have fixed prices. Prices of the pieces will depend upon the following properties of the diamond: clarity, cut, color and carat. Clarity refers to the clearness of the gemstone, its brilliance as well as its imperfections.

The color on the other hand refers to the “color” of the stone. Although diamonds are clear, there are varieties that have yellow shades. The carat refers to the weight and size of the stone while cut is the shape the stone is cut. Each property will determine the price of the diamond. For instance, the better the clarity, the higher the price. The same goes with the color. Yellowish-colored stones are less expensive. Reputable stores keep records of these things so don’t be afraid to ask the store

Watch out for sales

Stores frequently offer promos and sales, often during special occasions like anniversaries. Some conduct sales before Christmas to get rid of old stocks. Take note of these sales and follow the prices of the jewelry. Buy when there is a sale so that you can take advantage of the discounts. Although jewelry stores do not really give much in terms of discounts, a couple of percent is already pretty good especially if the price is high.

Look in thrift shops, garage sales and second hand stores

Although diamond rings are not exactly a dime a dozen in these kinds of shops, sometimes, they do appear. Be on the lookout but of course before you buy make sure that you have taken note of the specifications. You may be paying more for what it is really worth.
