Topaz is the birthstone for those who were born in the month of December. I have developed a fascination for topaz after learning that it is my birthstone. Presently I have collected quite a sizable blue topaz jewelry collection. My favorite is a pair of earrings given to me by my husband on Mother’s Day. Topaz is inexpensive, although it has a dazzling shine and hue that can rival any other gemstone.
This disconnection from the true and pure meaning of jewelry can be attributed to the materialistic mindset that’s prevalent today. Jewelry is viewed as a status symbol or an investment, thus the price of the jewelry is given more weight. Unless people learn to appreciate and give value to the artistry behind the design of the jewelry, true appreciation of the art of jewelry making may be slow to come by.
There’s a profound truth to the saying, “It’s not the cost of the gift, but the thought behind it.” Gifts of jewelry create precious memories, yet all too often the person giving the gift feels as though he must spend more than he can afford in order to demonstrate his feelings to the woman he loves. Unfortunately, the jewelry industry often reinforces this belief, going so far as to offer guidelines about what a man should spend on an engagement ring, for example. (The “guideline” is two months’ salary.)
Get the Right Size
Pearls are probably the only gemstone which does not require cutting and each one is totally unique. Although it is classified as a gemstone it is of course biologically produced by a mussel. These mussels can be found in fresh and saltwater.
